My Bio

I have loved to draw all my life but my greatest love and fascination has always been people ~ in all their infinite variety and character. I earned my degree but during my final year lost both my parents to cancer. It was a life-changing experience and my primary career became Hospice work for the next two decades. I bring to my art a deep love for people after working with folks facing the harshest realities imaginable. My goal with portraiture is to portray each individual’s unique and personal beauty, especially true of my portraits of the artists who create the music I love. My ‘Soft Portraits’ are done in charcoal on high quality, lightly toned Canson™ Mi-Tientes paper.

I do have a few "devious" reasons for drawing the band boys I admire. The main reason is gratitude for the awesome music I so enjoy. My art is something I can share in return for the art they create with their music. After a chat over coffee, he wrote the following: "Most of Jan's portraits are drawings of young men. They have tattoos, gauged earrings, lip rings, mohawks, faux hawks or long hair. Most wear black, tight fitting clothing. There is something in their faces that is both handsome and beautiful. Many are members o

Who are these boys!? Good thing they carry ID for a personal reminder! On the left is T.J. Armstrong, bassist and on the right Jason Evigan leadsinger, both members of After Midnight Project! www.myspace.com/aftermidnightproject Amazing music and even more amazing live shows! AMP is playing in SoCal this week  ~ Thursday 2/19 at Chain Reaction in Anaheim and Friday 2/20 in Hollywood at the Key Club! More tour dates around the US and on Warped Tour this summer! Another try at tracking a "work in progress" Clint was a fun draw and a lovely young man. As well as being an amazing singer, songwriter and keyboardist for his own band... System Syn http://www.myspace.com/systemsyn   and Imperative Reaction; http://www.myspace.com/imperativereaction Clint is also an amazing artist, working in watercolor and acrylics, doing portraits and illustrations with a macabre twist. This photo was taken at the Opening of Clint's Art Show at the Hyaena Gallery in Burbank. You can see some of his work behind him.... ...of course even the most sinister, dark industrial artist has to have a good chuckle now an
